Permanent hair removal can now be accomplished with a Laser. Laser hair removal is the newest method to remove unwanted hair from your underarms, chest, back and face. At the Millennium Advanced Cosmetic Center you will meet with a physician to see how the laser hair removal process will take place, and what type of results you will experience.

The Laser is an intense beam of light. When it strikes an area on your body the light is drawn to the darker or pigmented parts of the skin. If the darkest part is the hair, then the heat and energy of the light beam will be concentrated on the hair. The temperature will become high enough to kill the hair follicle. The laser only works on hair follicles in the active phase of growth. Hair goes through other phases as well. About 50% of the hair follicles at any given time are in the resting phase, so these are unaffected by the laser. Different hair follicles cycles are of different lengths. Some people will have follicles with strong resistance to destruction. Look at other uses for our laser.

Laser treatments for hair offer permanent results that waxing, creams or shaving can not, because the laser treatment targets the follicles that produce hair, thus reducing the production of oils from the skin. After a few visits to Millennium Advanced Cosmetic Center for laser treatments for hair removal, you will begin to see smooth hairless skin.

Laser hair removal is carried out by our staff who are specially trained in laser treatment. As the laser is passed over the area being treated, the hairs are destroyed reducing further growth and leaving a silky smooth feel even on sensitive skin. It is necessary to have a course of treatments to achieve the desired end result, and this will depend on the area being treated. These treatments are tailored to your needs, and are approved by a doctor.

FAQ's / History
The Westland Clinic, now known as Millennium Medical Group, has been serving the Western Wayne County area for more than 40 years. In the effort to continue with the quality care for our community, we have decided to work with and introduce a new age of medicine. This new age is launched with the use of lasers. Our lasers are special since they can perform many different services including hair removal, the treatment of acne, razor bumps, rosacia, and the treatment of varicose veins. The most special use is for collagen rejuvenation, or the scalpel-less face lift. Through the use of lasers, we can fix many dermatological and cosmetic problems. In fact, our lasers are the only FDA approved lasers for the use with all skin types. Have a treatment in as little as 15 minutes and then return to work or home. Call our office for a free skin analysis and see how we can help you.

FAQ OF LASER
1) What type of skin problems do you treat with your laser?
Our lasers are two different types. They treat different types of problems, this is what allows our clinic to treat many different types of skin problems. The common types of problems that we treat are: acne, varicose veins, pseudofolliculitis (razor bumps), rosacea, sun spots, freckles, age spots, hair removal, and of course the scalpel-less face lift known as collagen rejuvenation.

2) How many treatments will I need.
The treatments will vary depending upon the problems that you wish us to address. Of course this will also vary depending the severity of your skin problem, but the following is a rough guideline of treatment time:

Hair removal 6 treatments

Vein work 6 treatments

Acne 4 treatments

Skin Rejuvenation 6 treatments

Sun spots 1 treatment

Razor bumps 4 - 6 treatments

3) How much do the laser treatments cost?
The cost of treatments is determined by the type of problem that you have, the amount of problem you have, and of course the need for more than one laser. In most instances, when purchased as a package, we can get your price down to less than $100 per session. When compared to other salons, this is a savings! If you do not use up the complete package for your problem type, the remaining portion is transferable to another problem, or to another person - your choice.

4) Is this covered by my health care insurance?
More often than not, the answer is no since this is considered a cosmetic procedure. We can check with your insurance for you, or if you would like we could provide you with a receipt for you to attempt to collect from your insurance.

5) Do the treatments hurt?
For the most part no. It more often will feel like a prickling sensation. Certain areas of the body will hurt more than others, the nose for instance. The only procedure that we definitely say may be uncomfortable is hair removal. This is due to the nature of the treatment, the killing of the follicle. We can provide you with a numbing cream prior to the procedure to make it more comfortable for you.

6) Do I need to do anything prior to the procedure?
You must wear no make up to the session, and in the case of hair removal, you should shave as close to the skin as possible and wear no deodorant to the underarms. If you have had another procedure done by another clinic, let our laser technician know before we start, as special precautions may be necessary. For those people requesting hair removal, you must not pluck your hair for at least 4 -6 weeks prior to the laser use. Grooming with shaving to maintain appearance is allowed.

7) How long is the recovery process?
Immediate, in terms of how you will look and feel. You could have this done on your lunch hour! We only recommend re-treating within certain periods of time due to the type of problem you are having corrected. As an example we need to allow your next phase of hair growth to occur before we can do your second or third hair removal session. This is not due to potential for injury to you, but to maximize the laser’s effect.

8) Is the hair removal permanent?
Yes! This is also why you need at least four treatments. Hair grows in four different phases. The only hair that we can treat is that hair in the active growing phase. By using the laser for multiple treatments it ensures that we get every hair as it enters the growing phase. Hence permanent hair removal.

9) Is the laser that you use the one that is on the TV show, "The Extreme Makeover?"
No, ours is more advanced - the new generation. This is why it allows us to treat many more types of problems, as well as many different skin types. When we say laser, we must remember that we are actually using two different lasers. This is why we are safer, with a higher success rate, as well as the ability to treat many different types of problems.

10) What type of training do your technicians have?
Our clinic is different than most. It is physician driven, which means that everyone, BEFORE they are treated is evaluated by a physician. Both of our medical directors, as well as our laser technicians have undergone extensive classroom and practical training with the laser. We are constantly learning too. This means that we attend seminars across the United States to update our skills and products for our patients. Other salons have just a technician, not ours - you will be evaluated by a physician first! Remember, not everyone is right for laser. It takes practical medical judgement to make that decision.

11) Is the laser safe?
Yes! When you come in for your initial consultation, we will show you a video of how the laser works. By understanding this technology you will realize that the treatments will not cause damage, but how we harness this light energy to healing, therapeutic treatments.

12) How do you know which laser is right for me?
As we stated earlier, we use two types of lasers. These two different lasers work at different frequencies, and hence respond to different colors. Example, the color of a vein (red or purple) is different than a freckle or hair follicle. Even more different is when we do the collagen rejuvenation. The type of laser is dictated by the problem you want treated, and your skin type. This second laser is why we are able to safely treat people of different skin types.

13) What do you mean by different skin types?
Most lasers on the market are for one skin type only, Caucasian. Our two lasers allow us to be the first FDA approved lasers for the treatment of skin types from very fair skin to olive, Asian, African-American, Hispanic, or Mediterranean.

14) What is M.A.C.C.? Who are they?
M.A.C.C. stands for the Millennium Advanced Cosmetic Center. This cosmetic surgery center is based in the offices of the Millennium Medical Group, also known as the Westland Clinic. MACC is run by its medical directors, Dr. Andrew Colman and Dr. Stan Sczecienski. The Westland Clinic has been providing medical care to the greater Wayne County area for in excess of 40 years. By having Drs. Colman and Sczecienski, with years of medical knowledge, ensures both your success as well as your safety.

15) Where is MACC? What are its hours?
We are open Monday through Friday from 9:00am until 5:00pm. Special arrangements can be made for later sessions, with prior scheduling. We are located at 6149 N. Wayne Road, Westland, Michigan, across from the Westland Post Office. See the map on this site.

16) Do you sell or encourage any types of products to go with the laser?
Yes, we sell the product known as "GlyMed." GlyMed has a whole range of products that will enhance your skin. These products cannot be bought anywhere but at MACC, or other GlyMed distributors. We sell moisturizers, exfoliators, and many other products. We feel so strongly about these products that we use them as free samples after your treatments are finished! The glycolic acid products and other lotions have been tested, and are far superior to any product that you can buy from any salon. Our laser technicians have gone to extensive training sessions to ensure that we pick the correct product, that will enhance your laser treatment, yet remain safe for you.

17) Why should I do laser versus traditional types of plastic surgery?
There are many answers to that. First, the level of discomfort from the laser is negligible. The surgery involves cutting the skin, a painful process, not to mention the potential for infection. Plus with the surgery there is at least 4-6 weeks of time away from work, to heal. Our procedure allows you to go back to work the same day! Then there is the cost, with the longest treatment protocol being 6 visits, at a cost of less than $100 per visit. . . . you can see the large amount of money you will be saving. The question is not why should you visit MACC, but why wouldn't you???
