Since it's opening in 2003, Laser Skin & Hair Clinics has been under the direction of Shalini Gupta, MD. Dr. Gupta received her medical degree from Christian Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana, India. She was Board Certified in Internal Medicine in 1999. In addition to being the Medical Director of the Laser Clinic, she is on staff at Oakwood, Annapolis and Heritage Hospitals. She runs her own Internal Medicine office as a Solo Practitioner in Taylor.

What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal works safely, quickly, and effectively to rid you of unwanted hair on nearly any part of the face and body. This non-invasive treatment is a more sensible solution then temporary hair removal procedures such as tweezing, waxing, shaving, or chemical depilatories.

How does it work?
This process works by emitting pulses of laser energy into the hair follicles. The pigment in the follicles absorbs this energy, which causes them to become disabled. Once disabled the follicles can no longer produce hair.

How many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments required varies, depending on the color of your hair and skin. Approximately 20% of the body hair is in a growing phase at any time. The remainder is dormant and unable to absorb light. Therefore approximately five treatments are generally required for most people, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

How long does a typical session take?
An area of unwanted facial hair may take as little as 5 minutes to treat, while a man’s back or a woman’s leg may take over an hour to complete.

Is hair color important?
In general, the darker the hair, the more effective the treatment. Blond hair may have a limited response and may require pretreatment with a pigment enhancer.

What about skin color?
Our top of the line laser provides contact-cooling before, during and after each laser pulse, for a safe and comfortable treatment on ANY skin color.

What is the treatment like?
As the laser glides over the skin, a prickly sensation is felt each time a hair follicle is destroyed. Once the follicle is destroyed it will purge the hair that remained under the skin and they will fall out within 7-14 days. Most people notice a 20% reduction after each treatment.
