Permanent Laser Hair Reduction

Laser Hair Removal is the most effective, proven treatment for hair removal. It eliminates hair easily, safely and conveniently on any area of the body.
Traditional hair reduction methods -- shaving, waxing, tweezing and creams -- are time consuming and must be repeated frequently. Until recently, the only effective method for long-lasting hair reduction was electrolysis, a slow and painful process in which follicles are individually destroyed by electrical current. Since 1995, however, lasers have proven to be effective in providing fast and long-lasting hair reduction.
The Intense Pulsed Laser offers the ultimate in safe hair reduction technology. The high power of the laser allows for larger spot sizes and ensures effective treatment down to the deepest follicle, while the laser 's unique double-pulsing technology guarantees preservation of surrounding tissue. Integrated and monitored pre-cooling of the skin offers additional skin protection and comfort for the patient.

How does hair reduction work?
A pulse of laser light penetrates into the skin and delivers the energy at the root of the hair, destroying the hair root while sparing the surrounding skin.
Relative to waxing, plucking, and ripping, laser hair removal does not hurt to that degree. Some patients may experience a stinging sensation when the laser is pulsed. This stinging should not last more than 5 seconds after the light flash of the laser.

What areas can be treated?
All areas of the body can be treated, except around the eyes.

How long does the procedure take?
It depends on the area being treated. It will typically take 10 minutes to treat the upper lip up to 30 minutes for a full face.

Is it safe? Is it painful?
Complications are rare. In less than 1% of cases, skin lightning or darkening may occur. It is advisable to wear sunblock when in the sun during the month following laser treatment.

Anesthesia is not required-the only effect felt is a hot and tingling sensation that is well tolerated.

How many treatments will I require?
Because hair grows in multiple cycles, several treatments are necessary, their number depending on type of hair and location. Treatments are usually performed 6 weeks apart.

What results can I expect? Is it permanent?
Clinical studies have demonstrated a permanent reduction in hair numbers after each treatment. After each treatment, the hair that regrows is thinner, lighter and less numerous.

What are the side effects?
Fortunately, there are few side effects. In the first hour, treated skin may develop redness and selling around the hair shaft. This responds quickly to a cool ice pack and aloe vera lotion. rarely, blistering will occur, but this also responds to ice and aloe vera. permanent scarring is extremely rare. Very dark skin can become hypopigmented (turn lighter, and lighter shades can become hyperpigmented (darker. Hyperpigmentation usually fades in 3 to 6 months. excessive swelling is also unusual but should it occur it should subside within 3 to 7 days. If skin becomes fragile at the treatment site, avoid makeup and rubbing the area. Of course, lack of hair removal could be called an unwanted side effect.

What should I do before the visit?
For the best results, avoid sun or tanning 4 to 6 weeks before treatment. If you have tanned recently, you should not undergo photoepilation. There is a danger of overheating the treatment area because of darker pigment in the skin. Hair on the area to be treated must be shaved within 24 hours of the treatment. Remove your makeup before the treatment and keep your skin clean. Tell the doctor if you start any medications; some can make you more susceptible to burning with treatment.

What will be done at the visit?
At the first visit the skin will be evaluated and the correct light setting for your treatments will be determined. This will take about 15 minutes. You will receive some small "test spot" treatments. payment will need to be made at the time of your treatments. Fees will be charged based on the size, number and locations of the areas treated. Multiple area pricing available. Payment plan available through Care Credit.

How should I care for treated skin?
Gentle washing and the use of an aloe vera gel are generally sufficient.
