Mission Statement

Although mission statements are now de rigueur, too many of them are not taken seriously by their authors. Trillium has only one fundamental mission; to improve the quality of life of our patients (whether cosmetic or functional) skillfully and compassionately, and return them to their everyday lives somehow better for their contact with us. This is our only mission. We are dedicated to our patients, to their individual concerns and goals, and consider their trust in us to be both a profound responsibility and a rare privilege.

Philosophy of Care

Your body and your health belong to you. We are here to help when, and if, you need us. Each patient is unique, with a unique set of problems, needs, desires, concerns, emotions and history. Whenever possible, we will inform you of your options for treatment, and allow you to make informed choices for your care. We cannot, and will not, make unilateral decisions for you concerning your own body and how it is treated.

This is sometimes troubling to patients, and sounds passive, until they understand our fundamental philosophy of care. We do not wish to "fix something that is not broken", but we will make every possible effort to allow you to choose the avenue of medical or surgical treatment which is most likely to provide the improvement you seek, or which is indicated for your health or cosmetic desires.

Laser Hair Reduction

Michigan laser hair removal Whether for hygienic or cosmetic reasons, the patient who is tired of temporary, often painful methods of removing unwanted hair may welcome laser and intense pulsed light hair removal with relief.

Lasers produce highly focused, intense beams of light that are absorbed by dark pigments in the hair follicles beneath the skin's surface and converted to heat, destroying the follicles and preventing hair growth for up to two years. Multiple treatments are required for complete hair removal — the follicle must be "active" at the time of treatment, and not all follicles are active at the same time. Treatments are needle-free and do not require anesthesia. Most patients feel nothing more than a slight sting like the snap of a rubber band.

It is possible that some hair will grow back, though it is usually finer and lighter than what was originally removed. There may also be some redness and swelling following the procedure.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Is any laser hair removal permanent? I have my doubts.

First, what does permanent mean? The first hair removal laser (EpiLaser by Palomar, which Trillium first used in 1997) has been updated many times by Palomar. We now use Starlux IPL, the most advanced, powerful hair removal system available. Most patients have had no "re-growth" of hair in treated areas for 8 years. Will they ever have re-growth, in their entire lives? I doubt it, but no one can give you any longer experience than 8 years. Beginning in 1997, Trillium has treated over 1,000 patients, with over 5,000 treatments. Over 98% of those patients have had at least 90% hair reduction (consistently) after 7-12 treatments, and many for over 8 years. We consider that successful, permanent treatment. Many lasers and IPL machines are now "approved" by the FDA to market permanent "reduction" of hair follicles. Most of them are not very effective, which the FDA has completely ignored. We believe that Palomar's Starlux IPL is the current "gold standard" in hair removal systems. There is no question that IPL hair removal (with the right IPL and a skilled operator) is the safest, longest lasting, most cost effective, most comfortable method of hair removal now available. Proponents of electrolysis (and its operators) disagree, but most of our patients will tell you that they would never have electrolysis again after having IPL hair removal. In fact, IPL hair removal is actually less expensive than electrolysis, after all needed treatments.
