Laser Hair Removal - Is It Right for You?

Today's hair removal lasers are able to treat patients with almost all skin types, including dark or tanned skin. The ideal candidate will have skin that is substantially lighter than the hair being treated, and people with tanned skin may need to wait until their tan has faded before they receive this treatment.

Almost any area of the body can be treated with laser hair removal; typical choices include:

* Face
* Underarms
* Bikini line
* Back
* Neck
* Shoulders
* Pectoral area

Kalamazoo laser hair removal treatments are not appropriate for people with certain physiological traits and medical conditions, so our caring and highly skilled laser skin care professionals will assess your skin and health history carefully in order to make sure you choose the treatment plan that is right for you.
Your Laser Hair Removal Procedure

This treatment eliminates unwanted hair using a sophisticated device that emits a beam of light which passes through the skin, targeting problem hair follicles without significantly affecting the surrounding tissues. Some patients report mild discomfort as the laser energy is emitted from the device, but the majority of patients find that they do not need a sedative or topical anesthetic for their laser hair removal procedure.

Because hair grows in cycles and not all hairs will be at the growth stage during each treatment, most patients require between 4 and 8 treatments every month or two before they achieve the amount of reduction they want. Permanent removal of all hair at the treatment sites rarely occurs and is not guaranteed, but patients are generally very pleased with their results.

In most cases, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, Jackson and Lansing laser hair removal patients enjoy a quick recovery with minimal discomfort. The key is to take care of your treated skin, which immediately after each treatment may be slightly red and swollen, particularly around the hair follicles. The redness and swelling may last for only a few hours or may take a day or two to subside. The vast majority of patients are able to return to their normal activities and job duties immediately after each treatment.

If skin irritation after treatment becomes uncomfortable, cold compresses or moisturizing creams can be used to soothe the area. You can protect the treated skin by avoiding sunlight and refraining from shaving, plucking hairs, or using soaps that would dry the skin. If your skin will be exposed to sunlight, be sure to wear sunscreen rated at SPF 30 or higher.

Great Lakes Plastic & Hand Surgery's caring and professional staff has a strong reputation for friendly treatment and high standards for accuracy. Learn more when you request a consultation online or call them today at 269-329-2900 (Kalamazoo/Portage) or 269-979-0900 (Battle Creek)
